Deadly Eruptions -- Since 1800 A.D. there have been nineteen volcanic eruptions in which a thousand or more people have been killed directly by the eruption or by indirect causes, such as famine, attributed to the eruption. The greatest number of deadly eruptions have occurred in Indonesia, which include the devasting eruptions of Tambora in 1815 and Krakatau in 1883.
